No Apology Necessary
I have never written to a magazine in my nine year career in magazine publishing but I just had to write to say thank you for publishing the article “An Apology For Not Breeding” (March 2007).
I am also 38 as is my husband and we don’t want kids. Every time we say it to anyone we get this awful eye of shame upon us. It was so refreshing to read that someone else in the universe is happy without children. I have 10 nieces and nephews and I love them so much I can hardly bear it. However, I have no desire to be a parent and in this day and age, that’s OK! Thanks for printing that article!

The Only Constant is Change
I was “Spring Cleaning” my office today, getting prepared for a move to a new and improved office space and I came across the September ’06 issue of Conscious Choice. I thumbed through the issue and the title, “Change is the Only Constant,” in the “from the editor” section jumped out at me. I reread the passage and everything in it resonated with me.
Currently and for about the last four years, change has been the only constant in my life, but alas, I am comfortable with the energy and progress that change brings with it.
My point in writing, first is because in your passage you requested feedback concerning the direction the magazine is taking. And I intend to give you feedback through my experience.
I have been a reader of Conscious Choice since high school and I have to say I am pleased with the broader focus and sleeker image of the publication. I like things that look good and speak to my heart.
Anyway, on to my point…I am an owner of a green cleaning service in Chicago. I was waiting for my dance class to start at Old Town School of Folk Music when I picked up Conscious Choice — there was an ad for the Chicago Sustainable Business Alliance. I called while I was waiting and decided to join the following Monday. This connection led me to the Conscious Choice photo shoot for the April issue, which then led me to the Green Business Conference where I was so honored to speak on a panel for women who own sustainable businesses. In short, I have been validated and rewarded, and furthermore connected to the right people to build, grow and define the business that I have.
Back to that article, I too see the connection of my passions and how I am a relevant change agent. Most importantly, I am in the right place in the right time and change is good. Viva Chicago!
