30 days to a New You?

The New Year’s holiday not only rings in a new year, but also brings the opportunity to make a fresh start, and one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to eat healthier. These days, more and more people who resolve to live healthier lifestyles are trying raw food diets, but can eating raw food really reverse diabetes in just four weeks? In a new documentary film, “Raw for 30 Days,” six diabetics embark on a raw food diet to find out for themselves.

The six participants, from different locations all over the U.S., switch to a 100 percent vegan, organic, live raw food diet for a month to try to cure their diabetes naturally. According to the medical experts, a raw food diet may help reverse diabetes, heart disease, immune system problems, reduce the risk of cancer, combat depression, raise energy levels and lose weight. The participants were supervised by Gabriel Cousins, M.D., and Helen Ross, M.D., at the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center in Patagonia, AZ.

“Since 21 million Americans are diabetic, and 40 million pre-diabetic due to obesity and poor nutrition, I was emboldened by the message that there is a way to choose life and health instead of disease,” said executive producer and creator Mark Perlmutter. “Every American knows someone with diabetes, and this film may be the first exposure some have to a greater understanding of controlling, if not conquering, a disease.”

A DVD, “Raw for Life,” is available with additional information regarding raw vegan diets, featuring more than 30 experts covering the benefits of following a raw vegan diet and providing a how-to approach for making a switch to the raw food lifestyle.

“There is a significant movement to incorporate more raw, vegan foods in an everyday diet, but there can be confusion about how to transition to healthier food,” said Joel Fuhrman, M.D., one of the country’s leading experts on nutrition and natural healing and author of several books on the subject of diet and health. “I was glad to lend my expertise to ‘Raw for Life’ and to shed more light on the links between disease and diet.”

Adopting a raw vegan diet is not easy and not for everyone, so experts recommend checking with a doctor before making such a lifestyle change. So, were the participants in the film able to cure their diabetes? We’ll just have to wait. “Raw for 30 Days” is scheduled for release in Spring 2008, but those anxious to learn about raw food diets can purchase the “Raw for Life” DVD online at rawfor30days.com. It just might change your life.
