Readers Respond to A Day of Silence (and Questioning)

Dear Mr. McGinnis, I applaud your want to educate people and support a very worthy cause (A Day of Silence (and Questioning), From the Publisher, April 2008). Also, I believe that revealing the names of the vicitim and the 15-year-old murderer does nothing to help the issue. It is horrible what happened to Lawrence King, but I think that we fuel the circle of violence by broadcasting the criminal’s name. Unfortunately the parents, friends and family of both of these boys will suffer till the end of their days for what occured on February 13th. Let’s stop violence, not perpetuate the cycle. We don’t know how some people will react to information such as names and location. Please spread the word without causing more harm than is necessary.

I was recently walking along the street in East Lakeview, Chicago, and saw Conscious Choice in a stand. I had to grab a copy to see what it was all about and it was very intriguing, to say the least! The magazine truly inspired me to continue with my business model (environmental public relations ) and work hard to carry out the mission of my plan. Aside from the content of the magazine, I was particularly drawn to your personal message, A Day of Silence (and Questioning). As a gay man that was forced to grow up “in silence”, the piece particularly resonated in me. I want to personally thank you for its publication.

Pet-Friendly House Plants

I wanted to comment on an article I read way back in the January issue about clearing the air (Breathe Easy, Healthy Living). I enjoyed the tips, but I noticed that in recommending plants like peace lilies, there was no mention about the danger to our furry friends. The SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has this plant listed as “highly toxic” to pets. I don’t know about the others listed but you might want to remind readers not to bring any plant into the home without checking with the SPCA first.

Embracing Change

I have been reading Conscious Choice for almost 20 years! I have seen some big changes in format and content over those years, but it always seems to flow nicely with the expanding culture around me. From granola journal to green lifestyle glossy, it still meets my needs perfectly. I can always count on the content for taking the temperature of our communities in regard to conscious social change. Of equal importance to the editorial is the magazine’s value as a resource for conscious consumer choices and reliable health and well-being services. I read every advertisement and tuck it away in my mental catalog for future needs. I am always referring friends to some ad for a product or service I have seen in Conscious Choice, and I am always finding something new I want to experience for myself. Thank you so much for bringing this valuable resource to my life every month!
